As the Songstress of No9to5, Chandanie is no stranger to the music scene. Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, she creates a mélange of soul and folk in her work. Combining the simplicity of fluid vocal harmonies, melodic guitar lines, and acoustic percussion including djembe and cajon, her sound could be described as hipster-soul. Compared to the vocal styling of Erykah Badu, she is heavily influenced by the alternative hip-hop vibe of the throwback collective, the Soulquarians. Her lyricism is often an introspective grappling with self-love, gender counter-normativity and relationships. Performing as the lead vocalist in Brooklyn’s very own Flyer Learning, Chandanie is currently exploring the indie music scene with her solo debut acoustic EP titled is that a crime?
